LEAGUE officials have insisted Lavington is not a lock to always host the Ovens and Murray Football Netball League grand final.
Wangaratta again failed in its bid to snatch the game away from Lavington, with directors deciding to keep the marquee match at the border venue for the 19th year in a row.
Wangaratta Magpies won a consolation prize however, and will host the preliminary final on September 15.
Despite the rebuff Ovens and Murray board chairman, Graeme Patterson, has insisted Lavington is not guaranteed to host the match every year.
“No,” he said, when asked if that was the case.
“That is why, for a number of years now we’ve gone through the tender process.”
Mr Patterson would not divulge the reasons behind the board’s decision.
“It was a difficult decision,” he said.
“A lot of things were considered by the board and I don’t want to go into the specifics of that.”
