Star Hawks duo set to return

BONDING: Wangaratta Rovers players Nat Tavare (left) and Lauren Conroy spend time with CDHBU players Julie Lavis (second from left) and Rikki Caruso (right).

WANGARATTA Rovers will be boosted by the return of star players Jess Clarke and Alana Sutton for this week’s must win clash against finals contender North Albury.

Both Clarke and Sutton missed last round’s disappointing 27-goal loss to sixth placed Albury after being struck down by a virus.

Clarke was ruled out of the match early in the week, however, Sutton pulled out late on Friday night after being struck down.

Given both Clarke and Sutton are two of the Hawks’ best players it wasn’t a total surprise to see Albury take advantage.

Hawks coach Michelle Caruso said she didn’t want to make excuses for the 49-22 loss but admitted losing her star duo didn’t help their cause.

“We didn’t have Jess and we didn’t have Alana because they both had viruses,” she said.

“They are two of our best players and generally you think having two players out won’t make a difference but it obviously did.”
