WANGARATTA City is still hopeful striker Steff Joseph will be available for Sunday’s blockbuster grudge match with Myrtleford, but co-coach Mario Antonello said the Red Devils would be playing to win with or without the English goal machine.
The club has put an appeal through to the Albury Wodonga Football Association, citing footage on Prime News that suggested there was little in the two yellow cards Joseph received against Melrose FC last round, which led to his one-match ban.
“We think both cards were very borderline,” Antonello said.
“We just feel like the English players are being dealt with very harshly compared to other players in the league at the moment.
“We’re hoping to get the decision overturned, but even if Steff doesn’t play, we still feel like we’re putting our strongest side for the year on the park.
“Anything less than a win over Myrtleford will leave us very disappointed.
“We’re putting a side out there that we feel is capable of not just beating Myrtleford, but absolutely smashing them to bits.”
