WANGARATTA City will be without striker Steffan Joseph for this weekend’s grudge match with Myrtleford after the star import was hit with an automatic one-game suspension on Sunday.

Joseph was at his brilliant best as the Red Devils consolidated fourth place on the Albury Wodonga Football Association table with a 4-2 win over Melrose FC, bagging a hat trick for the second time this season and taking his overall tally to 16 goals.

Jake Giannakis opened the scoring for the Red Devils at Melrose Park, but only after Wangaratta City coach Jon Shaw made a great save from a penalty shot 15 minutes in.

Joseph then got in on the action, beating Melrose keeper and coach Josh Fluss twice in the space of five minutes to give the visitors a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Evan Rawluk got one back for Melrose on resumption of play before Joseph netted his third to seal the match, with a second goal to Rawluk late in the piece adding some respectability to the score card for the home team.

But it was a confrontation between Joseph and Fluss that created the biggest talking point, with both players sent from the pitch after incurring two yellow cards each.
