Textile artists celebrate time of change

CHANGES in life, landscape and the natural environment are expressed in colorful and evocative ways at a new exhibition by local creative ensemble, Zig Zag.

The group of Susan Mathews, Yvonne Voss and June Brown are presenting their fifth and what may be their final collaborative exhibition, as part of the Stitched Up Textile Festival for 2013.

“At least for the moment, this will be the last for Zig Zag,” said June.

Each artist has created four series of works, developing a theme which reflects and demonstrates the idea of “changes” in both concept and in the progression of one work to another, and using a variety of materials and techniques including eco-printing and dyeing, linocuts, monoprints and thread painting.

The concept was Susan’s idea, having recently relocated to the coast after 35 years living in Yarrawonga.

“The theme of ‘changes’ seemed to be quite apt at the time, and it’s a broad topic that can lead you anywhere,” she said.
