Another punt at O&M final

Magpies lodging application to host grand event in city

WANGARATTA will again bid to host the Ovens and Murray football grand final.

WANGARATTA will again bid to host the Ovens and Murray football grand final, with the Wangaratta Magpies Football Netball Club working through an application.

Club president Colin McClounan said the application to host the premier sporting event at the Wangaratta Showgrounds’ Norm Minns Oval would be lodged to the O&M Football Netball League board next Friday.

“We haven’t as yet put the application in but we’re working through the tender,” Mr McClounan confirmed with the Wangaratta Chronicle yesterday.

“It’s certainly our intention to apply.

“From my point of view, the fact that we’ve been able to successfully run the NAB Cup game earlier this year, and everything went well, shows that we’re capable of doing it for the (O&M) grand final.”

The Rural City of Wangaratta council lodged the application on behalf of the club last year, and Mr McClounan, who became a rural city councillor last month, said the club would again work with council to try and bring the event to Wangaratta.
