WANGARATTA’S biggest tourism event will receive $20,000 to help draw more people to the region.

The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz committee will use the funding to raise the event’s profile in Melbourne and interstate markets and increase visitation and length of stay in the North East.

Festival deputy chair Emma Jones was thrilled with the news yesterday confirming the funding, and aid it’ll be used it to further market the event to a wider audience.

“The festival attracted 25,000 people last year and the event already has strong national and international appeal,” Ms Jones said.

“This funding will help us develop existing tourism strategies to entice more people to come to the region to experience what’s on offer at this wonderful time of year.”

The festival is on Melbourne Cup weekend every year and visitors to the region have the opportunity to experience multiple attractions across the North East.
