League to look at incident

NORTH Albury has formally asked the Ovens and Murray Football Netball League to investigate an alleged headbutt during its Wangaratta clash.

NORTH Albury has formally asked the Ovens and Murray Football Netball League to investigate an alleged headbutt on midfielder Brian Durbridge during the Hoppers’ clash with Wangaratta last Saturday.

Hoppers coach Jason Akermanis slammed the level of violence in the O&M following the eight-point win over the Magpies and the club submitted a written request to the league yesterday.

The Ovens and Murray officially launched an investigation into the incident involving Durbridge and Wangaratta skipper Matt Kelly yesterday.

The incident left Durbridge with a bleeding nose.

The league has appointed Kevin Mayhew as the investigation officer and he will begin his work today.

Under AFL Victoria Country rules, Mayhew has 21 days to complete his investigation, however, there are parameters for a time extension should he and the league see fit.

Once the investigation has been completed a recommendation will be made as to whether a tribunal hearing is required.
