WANGARATTA let yet another golden opportunity for victory slip through its fingers on Saturday, suffering a heartbreaking eight-point loss to North Albury at the Norm Minns Oval.

The young Pies led by 46 points at half time but couldn’t go on with it in the second half as the Hoppers kicked 13 goals to four in the final two quarters to steal the points.

Despite not having won since round six, the Magpies have been in every match and had they finished better they could have won three or four of those contests.

But it didn’t look like it was going to matter on Saturday as they stormed out of the blocks, kicking six goals to one to take a shock 30-point lead into the first change.

In the end the match came down to which team took their chances and unfortunately the Magpies failed to grasp those opportunities again.

North Albury finished full of run with seven goals while the Magpies kicked a wayward 3.5 as the Hoppers secured victory 16.11 (107) to 15.9 (99).
