A $400,000 makeover for the Wangaratta Comfort Station (pictured) will take place in the second half of the year.
Rejuvenation of the facility, located at the Murphy Street entrance to Merriwa Park, is geared towards encouraging more people to use bicycles as their main mode of transport.
In line with this, the all-access facility will include space to leave bikes, and will include showers and toilets.
It is also expected to help meet the need for improved services for young families in Wangaratta’s centre, with some baby care facilities to be part of the redeveloped centre.
And an improved pathway into the park is on the cards to make it more accessible to everyone from bike riders to pedestrians.
With plans for a deck overlooking Merriwa Park as part of the project, geotech sampling has been completed in recent weeks to prepare for the balcony’s support structure.
Tenders for the project are expected to be sought in July, with works due to be completed by the end of the year.
