Shut the doors

Confidential matters cause friction ahead of meeting

A BEHIND closed doors portion of Tuesday night’s council meeting is expected to be the scene of fireworks.

Confidential matters will be discussed in a private room adjacent to the council chambers at the end of the “ordinary” council meeting.

Councillor Julian Fidge has already indicated he would like to see the matters discussed in the public arena, rather than away in private.

It is believed one of the matters to be discussed is how the council will deal with the findings of an investigation which substantiated 21 of 23 allegations of bullying by Cr Fidge towards council staff.

“We should be discussing these matters in the open,” Cr Fidge told the Chronicle.

“This council does too much business behind closed doors.”

It is understood the matters have already been the cause of heated discussion in the council forum meetings, which are generally held a week before a council meeting.
