Devils’ star trio to fire

WANGARATTA City co-coach Jon Shaw is hoping his star trio can replicate the form they showed in the State of Origin clash at club level.

WANGARATTA City co-coach Jon Shaw is hoping star trio Stefan Joseph, Richard Hodgeman and Tom Frawley can replicate the form they showed in the State of Origin clash at club level.

While Joseph claimed best afield honors, Hodgeman and Frawley were also in fine touch before being substituted as Victoria beat NSW 2-0 in the first ever state versus state clash.

The Albury/Wodonga Football Association returns to club action this Sunday and Wangaratta City face a must-win clash with Wodonga Heart.

Shaw said given his star trio dominated at a higher level, he was hoping for something similar starting against the Heart.

“All of the Wangaratta guys dominated so that was great,” Shaw said.

“Stef was already at that level but Richard was probably the first to admit he had had a couple of quiet games.

“But because he had such a brilliant start to the season we probably set unrealistic targets for him and even in quiet games, on reflection he has played well.

“Tom was a bit hit and miss before Friday night so hopefully he can take confidence from his effort and be more consistent in the second half of the year.”
