Council’s Fair Work deal

Management team, councillors curb criticism, commit to safe workplace

MOVES by most of council’s corporate management team resulted in an agreement at the Fair Work Commission yesterday.

The action was initiated by all of the Rural City of Wangaratta’s directors, Ray Park, Ruth Tai and Andrew Close, as well as Wangaratta Unlimited executive manager Graham Nickless.

Exact details of what the officers were seeking have not been made public, though it is understood they wanted to stop negative public comments about them by councillors, as well as a vote of confidence in them by council.

All the officers were present at the conference in Melbourne, even though Mr Park and Mr Nickless are currently on sick leave, and Ms Tai is working part-time.

Mayor Rozi Parisotto was also present, as was Cr Julian Fidge, who attended at the invitation of Commission Deputy President Smith.

The group emerged with a statement and an agreed way forward.
