WANGARATTA City star Stefan Joseph made history by becoming the first Archie Thompson medallist as Victoria defeated NSW 2-0 in last Friday night’s AWFA State of Origin clash.

Joseph was named best afield after he scored Victoria’s first goal while also peppering NSW keeper Josh Fluss on several occasions.

The Red Devil was brilliant all game as he and striking partner Dan Summers led the Vics to a famous victory at Wodonga’s La Trobe University.

Victorian assistant coach Mario Antonello said Joseph couldn’t have played a better match.

“Stef was awesome,” he said.

“A lot of people had high expectations on Stef and Dan coming into the match and both played great.

“Stef was the standout though – the first goal was an all-Wangaratta goal.

“Tom Frawley passed it to Richard (Hodgeman), who crossed it to Stef and then Stef volleyed it home.

“NSW had a couple of big blokes at centre back but Stef and Dan were just too quick.”
