Col will join the council

McCLOUNAN WANTS IN: Magpies president ‘excited’ to be part of new team

COL McClounan will take the job as the next Rural City of Wangaratta councillor.

The Wangaratta Football Netball Club president and ex-policeman was announced as the successful candidate to replace Lisa McInerney in yesterday’s countback of the October council election.

His decision comes just days after former mayor, Anthony Griffiths, knocked back the same job.

Mr McClounan looked to be heading down the same path, all but ruling himself out of the position a couple of weeks ago, citing his football commitments as one reason not to take up the job.

But having the opportunity to contribute to the community presented to him yesterday was too good to pass up.

“I’m going to have a run at it,” he told the Wangaratta Chronicle.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity.

“It’s not something that comes up all the time.

“I felt the reasons I ran in the first place still existed.”
