‘SERIOUS’ issues at council were major factors in Anthony Griffiths’ decision to decline the position of Rural City of Wangaratta councillor.
The two time mayor made the tough call to decline entering his third term on council yesterday, after a countback identified him as the person to replace Lisa McInerney, who resigned last month from the ‘toxic council’.
Mr Griffiths said the seriousness of the current issues contributed to his decision.
“It’s extremely serious what they are facing,” he told the Wangaratta Chronicle.
“Particularly from a staff perspective, these are completely unchartered waters.
“Some of what’s been happening in regards to the staff is simply terrible.”
