FORMER mayor, Anthony Griffiths, has declined a spot on the Rural City of Wangaratta council.
He was selected to replace Lisa McInerney after a Victorian Electoral Commission countback of the October election.
“The Wangaratta Rural City Council is currently facing a number of significant issues and any new councillor will need to be able to commit a considerable amount of time to represent their community while doing their part in addressing these issues,” he said.
“Since the council elections last October my circumstances have changed considerably as I have taken on additional work and business commitments in addition to my various community roles.
“While I would be honored to serve as a councillor again, after discussions with my employer and in consideration of my other commitments, I have reached the difficult decision not to take up this unexpected opportunity.”
