Wangaratta plays with plenty of spirit but falls short against archrival

THEY never gave up.

The Wangaratta Magpies netballers maintained their aggressive offence right throughout their Derby Day  loss to the Rovers yesterday.

The opening minutes of the match looked promising for a tight contest with teams scoring goal for goal.

But nervous energy on both teams parts forced a few errors across the mid court while goal shooting accuracy waned for the Magpies.

Words from Rovers’ coach Michelle Caruso to “work as a team” sunk in as the Hawks outplayed their one on one opponents to take away a nine point lead at the first break.

Relentless defensive desire from Magpie Kate Dean helped keep the margin down in the final term but ultimately the accuracy and agility of the Rovers lead to their 57 to 32 win.
