Smith to miss crucial match

Midfielder aggravates knee problem in loss to Savoy

WANGARATTA City is all but certain to be without star midfielder Neil Smith for this week’s clash with Boomers FC.

WANGARATTA City is all but certain to be without star midfielder Neil Smith for this week’s clash with Boomers FC after the Englishman injured his knee in Sunday’s loss to Myrtleford.

Red Devils co-coach Mario Antonello said Smith had been having trouble with his right knee for some time but had been able to play through the pain.

But with Wangaratta City facing Boomers ahead of a bye, Antonello said the time was right to give Smith a chance to get his injury right.

“I’d say by the way he was talking after the match he will miss a few weeks,” he said.

“I think he has been carrying it since he got here but he aggravated it more on Sunday.

“We’ve got the Queen’s Birthday bye coming up so he’ll rest up for a couple of weeks and go from there.”
