Big Hawk in doubt

Norman battling groin injury ahead of blockbuster clash with Magpies

WAIT AND SEE: Karl Norman is hoping to play against Wangaratta despite a groin injury.

WANGARATTA Rovers will give star ruckman Karl Norman up until the last minute to prove his fitness for Sunday’s blockbuster derby against Wangaratta at the WJ Findlay Oval.

Norman injured his groin in the Hawks’ loss to Yarrawonga last round and was forced to pull out of the Ovens and Murray interleague side, which lost on Saturday.

The Hawks trained fully last week despite the bye, however, Norman was restricted to a modified program and will look to return to full training this week.

Hawks coach Mick Caruso said he was unsure whether or not Norman would take his place against the Magpies.

“We’ll just wait and see how he comes up this week,” he said.

“We train (last night) and Friday so we’ll know later in the week if he is right.

“The group trained Tuesday and Thursday last week but we had Karl on a modified program.”
