AN out of control party promoted on Facebook left the Country Women’s Association (CWA) hall in Wangaratta trashed, and led to a teenager being seriously assaulted on Saturday night.

Police and CWA members were horrified at the damage caused when about 200 teenagers from across the North East came together for the party, which started after the organisers allegedly broke into the hall.

An inquiry was made with the CWA about holding a party, but organisers never filled out the forms, paid the $200 bond or picked up the keys.

An event invitation went out to more than 400 people on Facebook with details to “get drunk, have fun”.

Sergeant Patsy Haynes, of Wangaratta police, said the party “was a potential bomb ready to go off”.

“They ran it under the guise that there were a few of them having a birthday party,” she said.
