WANGARATTA City returned to the winners list on Sunday ahead of its blockbuster clash against Myrtleford this weekend with a solid victory over St Patrick’s at Alexandra Park.
Coming off a disappointing loss to Albury City, the Red Devils were too good for the Patties, scoring a 3-0 win.
James Wells scored in his third successive match to open the scoring in the fifth minute before Stefan Joseph completed a brilliant solo run to double the lead on 10 minutes.
But knowing they had all but wrapped the match up, the Red Devils were guilty of trying to be too cute and weren’t able to add anymore goals in the first half.
Joseph was brought down in the penalty area early in the second half and Tom Frawley converted from the spot to seal victory.
Wangaratta City coach Jon Shaw was pleased to get back on the winners list but admitted the Red Devils could have played better.
