Police still seeking help over a ‘dangerous’ underpass incident

THE Wangaratta pensioner who had a metal rod thrown at his car on the weekend says he lost about $70,000 worth of possessions in the ensuing crash.

And his early dealings with the insurance company indicate he will only be covered for about a quarter of that amount.

The man, who does not wish to be identified, was driving under the Rowan Street underpass on Saturday when the metal rod smashed through his window, causing the car and caravan he was towing to crash into a concrete pillar.

The Wangaratta Criminal Investigation Unit is still investigating the incident, which Detective Senior Constable Peter Evans said was “very dangerous”.

“We’re still appealing for any witnesses that haven’t’ come forward yet,” he said.

The pensioner who was planning to go on a caravanning holiday with his wife, who has just finished a round of cancer treatment.
