IAN David Thomas will appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court this morning charged with murdering his Wangaratta parents, Bill and Pauline Thomas.

The 35 year old, of the Perth suburb of Balga, was arrested on Tuesday and appeared before an out-of-sessions court on Wednesday facing two counts of murder.

Today’s court appearance comes as other grieving relatives and friends try to understand the tragedy that has befallen this respected, and loved local family.

Speaking to the Wangaratta Chronicle yesterday, Pauline’s twin brother, Bernard Coonan, said the family is “gutted, devastated, shattered”.

Mr Coonan said what was particularly heartwrenching was the couple would never get to see their youngest daughter, and bride-to-be, Madonna get married in Fiji next weekend.

He said the family had gone from such excitement about the wedding, to being completely shattered by the loss, now having to plan for the couple’s funeral.
