WANGARATTA is all but certain to have representation in this year’s Ovens and Murray interleague side with players from the Rovers and Magpies making up 10 of the 44 spots in the initial squad.
The OandM will take on the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football Netball League at Visy Park in Melbourne on May 25 and the process of picking the best team begins now.
Reigning Wangaratta Rovers best and fairest Karl Norman was almost an automatic selection and has been joined by teammates Sam Caruso, Tyson Hartwig and Jamie Sheahan in the squad.
Hawk recuit Sam Carpenter was also named despite missing the past two matches with hamstring tightness.
The Magpies have endured a winless start to the season but their quality remains with former coach Judd Porter, Ben Davies, Matt Grossman and James Wong all selected.
Young forward Josh Porter was also rewarded for his impressive form with a spot in the squad.
All 10 clubs are represented in the squad with 2012 premier Yarrawonga boasting eight squad members while last year’s runner up Albury is not far behind with seven inclusions.
Coach Matt Pendergast, along with his selection panel of Ron Montgomery, Jason McMahon and Leigh Ramsdale, will now start to ramp up preparations for the all important clash.
