FORMER Myrtleford star Joel Coombes is unlikely to make his debut for the Wangaratta Rovers this Saturday with the mercurial half forward yet to be cleared by East Burwood.
Coombes, who played for Myrtleford from 2010-2012, signed with the Eastern Football League club only months ago but in another twist, agreed to terms with the Hawks at the weekend.
For Coombes to play with the Hawks this Saturday against Wodonga, East Burwood must clear and release the forward from his contract.
But Hawks vice-president Barry Sullivan isn’t expecting East Burwood to let Coombes go without a fight.
“At this stage we have submitted the clearance but we expect East Burwood to knock that back,” Sullivan said.
“We are still waiting to see the contract he signed and the terms.
“We’ll process it from there.
“I don’t think it’s going to be an easy transfer and it’s looking pretty doubtful that he’ll play this week.”
