STRESS and depression have been revealed as the cause of Councillor Lisa McInerney’s absence from the Rural City of Wangaratta.
The news came after a massive week for council, which saw the Local Government Minister, Jeanette Powell, yesterday give the council an ultimatum to tighten up their act.
Cr McInerney spoke to the Wangaratta Chronicle yesterday about her absence, after she missed Tuesday night’s ordinary council meeting, which was attended by up to 150 people.
Questions about Cr McInerney’s whereabouts were raised on Tuesday night, as she was due to return to work as a councillor on Friday, March 15.
Cr McInerney explained that her leave of absence, from February 21 to March 15, was due to health issues.
“My leave of absence was for a WorkCover claim that I lodged due to stress and depression incurred during my role as a councillor,” she said.
“I am on a modified return to work plan which allows me to attend portfolio meetings and meetings where I feel it is safe for me to do so.
