WITH a little elbow grease and wet, soapy sponges,Wangaratta Girl Guides helped set what will be a new car washing world record on Saturday.
A handful of Guides, together with several fellow members from Mansfield, washed some 70 cars in the carpark of Wangaratta Repco between 9am to 1pm.
“It was a fantastic effort,” said Guides district manager Anita Everingham.
“The girls worked hard, had fun, and helped lift the association’s public profile while helping members of the community.”
Wangaratta Repco manager Craig Barkla said the local Guides had easily surpassed their target of 55, and helped smash the world record.
“Across over 100 Repco sites in Australia, Girl Guides simultaneously washed 6449 cars during the four hours,” he said.
“That is well above the former world mark of 4344 set in the United States, but we are still awaiting official confirmation that it is a new Guinness World Record.”
With $5 paid per car, the event also raised well over $32,000 for the Girl Guides movement.
