WANGARATTA has made its first significant gain of the Ovens and Murray off-season by signing former Murray Bushrangers captain Sean Johns.
Johns, 20, spent this season playing with Murray league club Mulwala but has decided to join the Magpies where he has a number of close mates.
The hard running midfielder was named in the best players on seven occasions for the Lions and also showed his worth resting up forward where he kicked 13 goals.
Johns’ signing comes at an important time for the club with the likes of Daniel McCormick, Brent Newton, Jordan Solimo and Nathan Hooper all departing.
Wangaratta coach Mark Knobel worked closely with Johns during his time at the Bushrangers in 2009 and 2010, and said he was rapt to have the youngster on board.
