INFECTIOUS skin conditions and other bugs are being contracted from the Ovens River.
The Chronicle spoke to a 23 year old visitor to Wangaratta whose foot became infected after she cut it on a rock in the Ovens River at Bright.
It has since been confirmed that several other people have sought medical attention in Wangaratta for a variety of infections.
Docker Street General Medical Centre’s Dr Ali Dabooyeh said he had seen five people in the past two weeks with conditions believed to have been contracted from the local stretch of the river.
He said patients’ symptoms ranged from fevers and skin irritation to abdominal pain, with conjunctivitis among the diagnoses.
“People usually get eye, ear, skin infections,” he said.
