UNRELIABLE telecommunications, poor infrastructure and proposed changes to the Wine Equalisation Tax were the major talking points at Dal Zotto Wines in Whitfield when Senator Richard Colbeck, parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, visited yesterday.

Michael and Otto Dal Zotto met with Senator Colbeck and Liberal candidate for Indi, Sophie Mirabella, to discuss pending reforms to the Wine Equalisation Tax (WET).

“If the government wants to encourage rural business to grow they need to provide the right infrastructure,” said Michael, chief executive officer of the family business.

“A lot of the discussion was centred on the poor internet reception and the arrival of the NBN and they said they would look into that.

“Telstra have been out here once a week for the last eight weeks trying to fix the problem.”

Mr Dal Zotto said at peak festival times when the valley attracts anywhere from 3000 to 5000 people the visitors aren’t able to send messages or images home due to the poor service.
